School History

The Galfrid School (previously known as Abbey Meadows) was formed in September 2001 by the amalgamation of the Priory Infant and Junior Schools.  These schools had been opened after the war to cater for families of the East Barnwell area who worked at Marshalls and on the railway in Cambridge.  Cambridgeshire Local Education Authority took the decision to form an all through primary school and the amalgamating governing body was formed in 2000.  After a long period of discussion, plans were drawn and building work commenced to extend the Infant School to accommodate the increased number of children.

In September 2001 Abbey Meadows opened its doors despite the building work not being finished.  It was not until February 2002 that the school was able to move into its new accommodation.

After 10 years there was pressure on the school to expand in order to take in even more pupils due to the growth of Cambridge.  Once again there was a significant building program leading to the school we see today.

On June 1st 2019 the school joined to be part of Cambridge Academic Partnership (CAP) and is now known as The Galfrid School.

In September 2019 Cambridge Academic Partnership joined the United Learning group of schools.
